From time to time, we receive some leather from a very special tannery, probably one of the oldest tanneries in the world and, without a doubt, one of the smallest. Founded by his great-great-grandfather in 1887, Genaro runs alone his tannery, using the same methods and tools and working on the very same premises as the previous generations.
As you can imagine leather is of the highest quality, but you won't find his leather used in any famous luxury brand nor anybody will talk about his masterwork in English-spoken forums. He lives and works alone in a remote small town in the north of Spain, you won't see many tourists or media coverage there, nevertheless the leather he produces is very limited and already sold-out months before being manufactured.
The pictures included were made by us during one of our visits (sorry in advance for the quality), but they sure help to imagine how old traditions are kept and maintained, and we hope through them you're able to feel the atmosphere. We hope his legacy can be kept for many years and generations to come.
This batch will combine, more than ever, modern 21st-century design with old traditions and materials.
The leather is produced from local cows that have been pasturing on the surrounding fields, in natural colour and, of course, veg tanned. It has no grain correction and could have some marks and scars, that together with the amazing patina this leather will develop over time, makes it a choice with a strong personality and individuality.
